John Calvin was French

(No, that's not news.)

Yesterday I went to ask my pastor if he had any recommendations for or books on the Reformation period. I left with a stack of reading material and some insight into the wisdom of Solomon.

Pastor Dan gave me mostly general stuff, but said that if I get "fired up" I can come back and borrow some more in-depth books, like Calvin's commentaries or Calvin's debates (I think with Sadolet?). "Those are kind of interesting," he said, "because it's a medieval-style debate, no separation between personal attacks and the argument itself. You know, 'You ignorant pig!' -- things like that."

So it was a fitting shelf-neighbor to Slander, afterall.

Nothing new under the sun . . .
