a just critique

Nathan has commented that last night's Edwards post may have the effect of propagating false stereotypes of the fire-and-brimstone Edwards who with vicious glee proclaimed the fiery fate of sinners falling into hell like so many bugs down the leaves of a pitcher plant***.

(The pitcher plant was my idea.)

This was not my intention.

If you've only read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," you need to go read some joyful Edwards. "The Excellency of Jesus Christ" is a good one for thinking about how a God of ultimate justice is also a God of ultimate mercy.

You can say his writing's old-fashioned or boring or wordy. But you can't say it's not joyful.
