glad to be clad

The events and sights of yesterday have inspired me to write a brief tribute:

I like clothes.

A lot.

I mean, I both like clothes a lot and like a lot of clothes (at least relatively speaking).

Aura and No. 3 and I were slightly traumatized yesterday by some of the costumes we saw (didn't see?) in the school parking lot and out on the quad. I'm not sure I'll ever get over that. ::shiver:: Especially the one I saw in the parking lot involving a very very short tulle skirt and large quantities of cellulite. Not attractive, sister. It might have worked for you about sixteen years ago, but that era has ended.

I was also thinking, while walking to school behind the Halloween parade, "where are the feminists on Halloween?" Somehow, when it comes to the costume industry, it's not the male half of society who are compromised. But I guess now that we're beyond the age of male protection we're beyond the age of any kind of protection -- physically or emotionally, or even from the elements -- and that includes clothes.

We're not vulnerable, we're liberated (I keep forgetting how that works . . .).

Clothes are the oldest human institution after marriage and eating.

Could we please put them back on?

I Peter 3: 3-5
"Do not let your adornment be merely outward - ......... Rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves......"

Maybe the 'scarcity' of outward dress (adornment) is directly related to the scarcity of the inward adornment of the 'hidden person'.

Jesus said "Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!" John 4: 35b-36

Great observation about clothes being the third oldest human institution.

I appreciate you Emily! Your conduct, your outward adornment, your love for Jesus, all display that you, like the holy women of the past have trusted God, and He has given you that inner godly adornment. Himself!

Kamyar started posting the GWC Halloween Clips he took. In this one.. people are putting lots on. Very covered up. (I'm lucky enough to have been in the offices at this point, but you may recognise one of the participants)
