thrill seeking

Today we were talking with some friends about Six Flags amusement parks and roller coasters/thrill rides.

Lately the thought of an amusement park really doesn't appeal to me (although I do have a small sliver of my heart devoted to liking Disneyland, and I'm not sure it's going away soon). Thrill rides especially just seem silly. There are plenty of good and healthy and needful dangerous things in life; what's the point to making up fake ones?

And it made me start to wonder if maybe all the thrill seeking going on nowadays has something to do with our neglecting the things that are really and truly thrilling. Like being passionate about something and putting your life on the line for it. Or making a commitment to something/someone, without knowing at all what will happen next, but with a resolve to stand by your word. Or doing something in obedience to the God of the universe that seems really crazy by human standards.

Hm.

I agree with thrill seeking for Christ.

Roller coasters sure are fun though. Although I have to admit once I had children they don't seem as fun and thrilling. For some reason I just can't get the thought out of my mind of the roller coaster getting stuck with my child on it.

There you go, getting all existential again.
Keirkegaard would be proud.

There is nothing wrong with rollercoasters or amusement parks.

Anonymous posting, on the other hand, seems to have become a real problem.
