This morning I made my first foray into the world as a person wearing a name tag bearing the word "professor." I've discovered that
- professors get nifty snack baskets in their rooms (Snickers is an okay professor-food)
- professors gain instant respect from new students at the breakfast table
- professors are expected to be married
- being a professor makes you 10 years older
- being a professor doesn't make your hair look any better or your dress shoes feel any less uncomfortable
At breakfast I told Mr. Barth that my name tag made me shy in the dining room. He said that not too long ago it was being 15 that made me shy in the dining room, and that I'll get over it. At least I have the distinction of being the only professor who really grew up in this school . . .
