I don't know if I ever really admitted to it on this blog, but I watched American Idol pretty regularly last season (kinda lost it at the end because Wednesday nights were busy, which is a backwards way of watching a competition, but anyway).
So, today, when AOL offered to let me hear a song from Jordin Sparks's upcoming album, I did.
The song "Tattoo" is, best as I can figure, about a girl dumping her boyfriend for bigger and better things. But, she assures him,
You're still a part of
Everything I do --
You're on my heart
Just like a tattoo.
(just like a tattoo)
This is one of the artistically saddest things I have heard in a long time.
"Just like a tattoo" is an awful, awful thing to sing. It's . . . ugly. And vulgar (no offense to tattoos, but since when do you put a tattoo in a love song? [if I'm-dumping-you-but-it's-nothing-personal songs can be classified as love songs]).
So . . . anyway, that's my pop culture rant.
Hopefully there won't be another one of these for a while.

This is so funny. I recently "offended" my sister by making fun of a Fergie song she likes that has the line, "I miss you like a child misses his blanket." I thought it was the worst (or perhaps just inappropriate) metaphor I'd heard in a long time.
