The only thing worse than not studying for your Anthropology quiz and getting 60% is studying for your Anthropology quiz (for an entire hour and a half!) and STILL getting 60%.
Somehow I felt a lot happier the day I got 100% and didn't really have a clue what the text said than tonight, when I could tell you a lot about the pastoral system of the Turkana people but (after much agony) clicked (a) "higher fertility and mortality rates" instead of (c) "vitamin and mineral deficiencies."
I confess -- it's not my desire for intellectual enrichment that has me up at 11PM on a Friday night reading about swidden cultivation practices in Amazonian rainforests. Not because I care about the planet, people, food, culture, nutrition, anthropologists, or whether my children will have healthy teeth.
I just want the points on the quiz. That's all.
Sigh.
