I was just reading a book called The Pixar Touch for a research paper due next week (coinciding, incidentally, with the first draft of the GSR3) and learned about something called the "uncanny valley," which is a scientific hypothesis about human responses to life-like robots.
Apparently, humans have a natural repugnance for beings that are close-to-but-not-quite-alive. I find this fascinating.
I would postulate more about what could cause this response, but after a law student called me today to talk about corpse law, I think I already have enough to think about (or try not to think about) for one night.
