pho-ne-tics and lin-guis-tics

the former*: I don't think I'll ever be able to hyphenate properly in English now that Prof. Prado told us how ridiculous it is.

the latter: Today I learned that Urdu and Hindi are only dialects of the same language, but that each has a completely different system of writing. I turned to Lorena and said "Urdu and Hindi are same language!" like that was the most amazing thing I had heard all day.

And it was.

* I know that phonetics is only a part of linguistics, but in the first class we are studying phonology, and in the second class we are still doing an overview of linguistics in general.
