re-cog-ni-tion

I've just been reading some old papers for inspiration, along with the poetry paper I wrote last week (just to see what I said, now that things have cooled down a bit).

One of the first things I realized was that I made a horrible mistake with a cognate right in the first line.

I wrote this, which I thought came out pretty well:
Desde la expulsión de Adán y Eva del Edén, la pena del exilio ha sido hilo prominente de la fábrica humana.
It was supposed to mean this:
Since Adam and Eve's expulsion from Eden, the pain of exile has been a prominent thread in the human fabric.
But it actually meant this:
Since Adam and Eve's expulsion from Eden, the pain of exile has been a prominent thread in the human factory.
Ergh.
