back when we knew who the bad guys were

PRINTED: Office of War Information, U.S. Government Printing Office, 1942
ARTIST: Ben Shahn (Ben Shahn is a notable Jewish American artist who was known for his graphic political artwork, WPA art, and his Jewish relief posters.)

Written on the poster is a copy of an actual World War II telegraph:

Radio Berlin, It is officially announced -- all men of Lidice, Czechoslavakia have been shot: The women deported to a concentration camp: The children sent to appropriate centers. The name of the village was immediately abolished. 6/11/42 1:15P

Fast forward to 2006.

The enemy: just as evil.

The threat: just as real.

The response: totally different.

No one can deny the success of freedom, but some men rage and fight against it. And one of the main sources of reaction and opposition is radical Islam -- the perversion by a few of a noble faith into an ideology of terror and death.
-- President Bush,
State of the Union Address, January 31, 2006
