Is that a good thing?

A writer is not so much someone who has something to say as he is someone who has found a process that will bring about new things he would not have thought of if he had not started to say them.

Actually, if he's describing the process where your research runs away from you and your finished product is on an almost completely different topic than your original idea, I know what he's talking about.

Otherwise it sounds kind of scary.
