Tonight We the Odd (Nos. 1, 3, and 5) were out and saw a bunch of ladies in red hats and purple suits dining at Bella Terra (which No. 3 and I now pronounce loudly in Italian, con gusto).
It was slightly odd.
At home, a bit of research brought me to this: Red Hat Society.
That, in turn, led me to discover Jenny Joseph's poem Warning, which a 1996 BBC poll named the UK's most popular post-war poem. Go read it; it's short. And significant.
I'm trying to look at it all objectively, as a celebration of fun and all. And really I kind of cherish the thought of being a semi-crazy old lady.
But I can't silence the mental echo of John Piper yelling something about sea shells . . .

I've heard of the Red Hat Society.
I accidently bought a set of note cards once, they had prety red hats and boots and in really pretty cursive they said 'A Note from Your Queen..'
It was later that I realised what they were and that was the end of that.
So sad. That's worse than the set of notecards I just bought at Target thinking they had real pressed flowers on them only to discover that the "flowers" were printed on.
Who'da thought stationery shopping could be so difficult???
Your post reminds me of this poem:
In the dim and distant past
When life's tempo wasn't fast
Grandma used to rock and knit
Crochet for us and babysit
When the kids were in a jam
They could always call on "Gram"
In that day of gracious living
Grandma was the gal for giving
But today she's in the gym
Exercising to keep slim
She's off touring with the bunch
Or taking clients out to lunch
Going north to ski and curl
All her days are in a whirl
Nothing seems to stop or block her
Now that Grandma's off her rocker!!
