now you tell me

This semester all my classes are Monday-Wednesday. So when I leave campus on Wednesday afternoon, the school week is DONE!!!

Seeing that this allows (1) free Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for teaching and work and (2) free evenings for church, and that it means only two back/forth commutes per week, I was very very very happy with my schedule.

But now I am discovering the cons.

The first is that having all back-to-back classes makes it hard to talk with people. Some guy in my Spanish class tried starting a conversation with me after class Wednesday. At first it didn't occur to me to say, "sorry, but I have a class now," but as it became apparent that he had a more detailed conversation in mind, I continued talking while backing out the door. At the time it seemed more rude to interrupt him to say, "sorry, but I have a class now" than to let him keep talking as I backed out of the room. But now I'm pretty sure being backed-out on with no explanation is worse than being interrupted for an explanation. Oh, the things there are to learn.

So that's number one.

Number two is that when I get home on Wednesday there is a near-ETERNITY before class the following Monday, which means that I have almost NO motivation to start on anything even vaguely reminiscent of homework. And there really isn't a hurry to do any other work either because, well, five days is a near-ETERNITY (see supra).

Now as the hours tick by and the work stacks up, I see that there is in fact a significant difference between five days and ETERNITY.

Oh, the things there are to learn.

I feel your pain.
All I have to do this semester is read philosophy and 18th C. lit. for M/W/F. Somehow I still manage to accomplish nothing on T/Tr.

On the plus side, I'll be done in April. How much more of this insanity have you signed up for?
