nobody here but us chickens

So, the rest of the family has left in all their regalia for an earlier baccalaureate ceremony, while No. 3 and I in our exceedingly unkempt condition are left to ready ourselves to carpool with the grandparents.

Alone and happy, and in something of a festive mood, we decided to raid the freezer for ice cream, to be eaten straight out of the carton in further propagation of festivity.

We made this decision just in time for the grandparents to show up, also in their regalia, making our carton-toting slobbishness even more apparent by contrast.

I had the distinct impression of re-living something:

Is that a good definition of home? "Someplace where you can feel good about raiding the freezer for ice cream"?
