I don't know why she swallowed a fly

There are a few reasons that I haven't been posting for the last several weeks. One is that my summer program has me convinced that I am on an FBI watch list, and so I'm kind of shy to have the FBI reading my blog, as it is usually not my best work, and I do want the FBI to think highly of me (hi, friendly FBI readers; I hope that you like this blog).

Another is that there hasn't been much extra time. We have something on the schedule from 8AM to 10PM, and then a few hours of homework to be accomplished in between.

Yet another is that besides homework (maybe more than homework), I've been reading and learning all that I can about the incarnation of Christ and the Trinity. I expected these to be topics of conversation, but I did not expect for them to come up in the way that they did, or as such earnest questions (both in my own mind and in the minds of the people I'm talking to). Every day is a new challenge, and a new experience of God's mercy.

Between me, my bills, and Dave, we came up with a reason for me to be home every weekend so far. So I've come home and debriefed at least for a few hours on Sundays. These debriefings have had, chronologically speaking, the following defining characteristics:

1) raving [from happiness], collapsing [from exhaustion], and shopping [to make the apartment home-y]
2) making cryptic statements, impressing the grandparents, and drinking caffeine
3) condemning my parents for stereotyping and bandwagoning
4) raving [from frustration], agreeing with my parents, actually resting, and cleaning E-VER-Y-THING

Sadly, I haven't chronicled all of this as it's happened, so the actual transitions are fuzzy in retrospect. What I do know is that my experiences so far remind me more than anything of those adding-on songs for kids, like "There's A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea" or "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly."

Grammar, politics, "religion," you name it . . . there's a fleck on the speck on the tail on the frog on the bump on the branch on the log in the hole in the bottom of the sea.

I was just thinking that the title of your memoir (or add-on song) of these 6 weeks could have something to do with the Arabic proverb you posted on after your first day in the program. Hang in there and I can't wait to hear how the next verse of the song goes.

Gee, thanks for mentioning the Hole in the Bottom of the Sea song. It seemed vaguely familiar, so I had to look it up. I hadn’t heard or thought about it since before y'all were born! I remember that it disturbed me as a young child. Here was this dangerous hole in the sea floor plugged only by a rotting log held in place by a bump. Sooner or later the bump would give way and all the Earth’s oceans would be drained (what a whirlpool). Not to mention the freakish and dreaded deep sea frog (I saw too many Jacques Cousteau documentaries).
