That's a definitely possibility. The hike up into the cave is pretty strenuous ... I don't think she would've made it. I am starting to wonder about the historical pedigree of some of the Biblical/historical sites here. It would be interesting to find out how authenticity is determined.
In life, I gather she looked a lot like Jabba the Hut.

So, maybe turning her into a pillar of salt instead of being forced to flee up the mountain was an act of mercy instead of judgment?
