Thomas Carlyle said that in a society where all of humanity is assumed to be equally and inherently noble, we will inevitably find ourselves in competition to see who can become the most depraved. Going back to feudalism and xenophobia is obviously not the answer, but the Western outlook on the future of civilization is based on some disastrously flawed concepts.

My non-caffeinated thought on your comment is, "My, Dan really can't help but be an academic." ;)
What's a "radical Islamist"?
I was thinking Ahmadinejad.
And, Dan, I read your comment again after having two cups of coffee (and generous helpings of strawberry ice cream), and I think you're right.
